The Girl And The Gun
Haley Longo, 23, is an Illustration student at Montclair State University. She is one of our featured artists and here she will talk about her latest project, a short graphic novel called "The Girl and The Gun".
This project was borne out of multiple areas of Longo's life. Her deep love of the Western genre across all existing media, wanting to portray strong female leads, and her love of emotional and personal storytelling. The main character from this project has appeared in numerous other projects by Longo, but she has evolved the character, changing minor things like names, to major story elements while keeping the feel of the narrative the same.
While the narrative takes place in the American West, Longo imbues the story with characteristics from other genres, like psychologically thrilling and tragic elements.
The projects that this forthcoming graphic novel sprung from includes "The Omen," and "A Love Story (In Three Parts)," shown below. The graphic novel is a true passion project of Longo's, a way for her to hone her storytelling and technical skills. She is planning on expanding the story to a possible standalone book, and publishing a version of this story once she is done with school.
